Stop unwanted email from cluttering up your inbox

Is your inbox overflowing with a mishmash of unwanted and unsolicited email? Don't let intruders commandeer your inbox—it's time to start blocking them.
There are some universal nuisances that you're always forced to deal with: ants invading your picnic, telemarketers calling you just as you're about to have dinner, sunny weekdays and rainy weekends…
Call it Murphy's law or just plain bad luck. But preventing undesirable email from creating a mess in your inbox is a nuisance you can actually stop.
What's block sender?
Keeping all your legitimate email organized at the best of times can be challenging, especially if you use your inbox for both your personal and professional messages.
If you're not diligent about organizing everything into categorized folders, this problem can be magnified tenfold by the dozens or even hundreds of unwelcome messages that bombard your inbox.
Enter Mailbird's block sender.
Block sender does exactly what its name implies: it allows you to block any email sender you select. Mailbird will automatically move their messages to your spam folder, keeping your inbox clean and free from junk or undesirable messages (keep in mind that, as a client-side application, block sender will only work when Mailbird is running).
Benefits of using block sender
Complete inbox control: You decide who can access your inbox, preventing senders from turning it into a mountain of junk mail.
Productivity boost: Improve focus and concentration by eliminating interruptions from unwanted email.
Clutter-free inbox: By keeping your inbox clean and organized, you're less likely to overlook or lose important messages.
Automated processing: Set it once and forget it. Mailbird will automatically filter out blocked senders, keeping them away from your inbox.
Simplified email management: Eliminate the hassle of having to manually delete multiple messages from unwanted senders.
How to block a sender
There are two simple ways to block a sender:
“Block sender” button
- When someone emails you for the first time, a “Block sender” button will appear next to that sender's name (figure 1). This button will remain for all subsequent messages from that sender—for the next seven days.
- When you click the “Block sender” button, all new messages from that person will automatically be sent to your spam folder.
- If you don't block a new sender within seven days (meaning they're legitimate senders that you actually do want to communicate with), the “Block sender” button will disappear. This is done by design, to keep the interface clean.
- After the “Block sender” button disappears, you can still block older senders through the three-dot menu.

Figure 1 - Simply press the “Block sender” button in a message to send all future messages from that person to the spam folder.
Three-dot menu
- From any email message, click on the three-dots menu (figure 2).
- Select Block “SenderName”. Alternatively, you can use the “@” shortcut key (SHIFT + 2).
- Unlike the “Block sender” button that appears for only seven days for new senders, you can always block senders from the three-dots menu or shortcut key.

Figure 2 - The block sender option is always available through a message's three-dots menu or the “@” shortcut.
How to unblock a sender
Like blocking a sender, there are multiple ways you can unblock a sender:
“Unblock sender” button
- When you open an email from someone you've blocked, you'll notice an “Unblock sender” button below the person's name (figure 3).
- Press it to unblock the sender.

Three-dot menu
- From any email message, click on the three-dots menu (figure 4).
- Select Unblock “SenderName”.

Block senders list
- Click on the Mailbird menu (the three-line menu) at the upper left-hand corner (figure 5).
- Select Settings → Filters.
- Underneath Blocked senders, you'll see a list of senders you've blocked.
- From there, you can delete one, several, or all the senders you've previously blocked.

Take control of your inbox
Targeting “problem senders” is an important step in keeping unwanted and unsolicited email away from your inbox.
Along with other common email practices, such as using filters and folders, Mailbird's block sender is a great way to organize your messages. It can not only reduce clutter, but also help improve productivity and concentration.
As for those pesky ants… I hear ground cinnamon works like a charm.
